Based on the ever popular and growing educational platform promoted by search giant Google, OOI’s STEPS Initiative is aimed at promoting the use of G Suite for Education (GSfE) to gradually transform the learning and teaching experiences of students and teachers in Nigerian schools; enhance productivity levels of teaching faculties within schools; significantly promote the inclusion of parents/guardians in the actual progress of their wards’ education; enhance access to educational historical data of each student within a GSfE accredited school; initiate the process of growing the number of educational institutions that form the network for a new Educational Ecosystem in the country.
There are many orphaned and disadvantaged children around the country. Children who have lost everything. When you sponsor a child, you are helping give one of these orphaned or abandoned children a family and a future. With your child sponsorship, you are directly contributing to the costs of raising the child you are sponsoring. That means you’re providing food, clothing, parental care, housing, education, healthcare and all things needed for a happy and healthy childhood. We believe that no child should grow up alone or with the feeling of being inadequate or a burden to his/her community. Children should be given the opportunities of just being children so that they grow up happy and confident.
The idea behind Rotole is to provide a robust online learning platform that would make significant contributions to the development of Nigeria’s education sector from a perspective that truly leverages the power of technology. There are a few sub-offerings (these are Barter Books; Digili; Babel) all of which make up one significant service offering in ROTOLE.
As part of the outlook for the Scholarly initiative, OOI will start a school ranking programme that will collate a detailed database on primary, secondary and tertiary institutions and rank them in accordance with globally accepted guidelines. The main thrust of this initiative is to give parents, guardians and other stakeholders a basis for making decisions as to which schools should be considered for their wards against the backdrop of an objective evaluation of various conditions/criteria that help determine choice of schools. In addition to the school ranking programme, OOI would be initiating a project focused on a ranking system for teachers.
The ChooseMySchool initiative is to provide a new and innovative crowdfunding approach in Nigeria in seeking and providing support to schools that find it difficult to provide basic teaching and learning materials for both students and teachers. This project is aimed at public schools that require support in providing different kinds of materials to aid teaching and learning.
OOI’s involvement with public owned schools under this initiative will take into consideration the reevaluation of current teaching personnel and hire new teaching staff to bolster the academic faculty (both existing and new teachers will have to undergo regular tests to ensure they remain skilled on new techniques and approaches to teaching), update the school curricular, put up new structures (in the case of new buildings, it could be considered to use prefabricated materials, to reduce cost and increase environmental awareness), establish modern teaching facilities, secure sources of funding for school activities and programmes, etc.
The Eduaid Initiative is a programme focused on the promotion of certain subjects in primary and secondary schools to foster interests in those subjects in the universities. The underlying objective is to begin the gradual process of reigniting genuine interests in our students in the subjects that will eventually lead to real changes in the Nigerian economy with more focus on the fields of works that these subjects lead into. The identified subjects include Music, Agriculture, STEM (STEM is with reference to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Teaching. We will also seek to partner with organisations, within and outside the Nigerian economy, that will help promote quality experience for students who choose to undertake any of the identified subjects under the Eduaid Initiative.
Project G.L.O. refers to “Go Live Online”, which is aimed at helping charitable organisations build a viable online presence that promotes and/or brings awareness to their respective causes and helps build a ‘bridge’ to potential supporters across the globe. In order to achieve this initiative, we have identified the following matters as critical to helping charitable organisations in Nigeria become more visible online: domain and server acquisition; SSL certificates; G Suite accounts; internet access (modem & subscriptions); development of brand & website; purchase of Chromebooks; phone & SIM; and payment platform integration. Our approach is that over the long term and to reduce the burden of making regular donations within short periods of time by donors, some of the activities will be done on a multi-year subscription basis.
Our Always On initiative is focused on helping charitable organisations install alternative power solutions, with preference for either solar power or inverters. This is so that alternative power solutions will greatly reduce their dependency on running the generators (where there is no power supply from the mains), as well as the attendant costs of maintenance. In addition to the provision of alternative power sources, October Orange Initiative will be seeking for support for the provision/supply of solar lamps to various charitable organisations. This will also help out with and reduce the burden of managing power consumption.
The #runwalklife initiative references the need to maintain an active/healthy lifestyle through regular walks or runs. Regular exercises could also act as an outlet in dealing with physical and mental health related issues. The origin of this initiative stems from personal experiences of the Founder, whom had to find a way of dealing with depression and what has helped is the consistency in keeping up with the rigours of developing exercising as a habit. Due to the benefits of such a lifestyle, OOI has integrated this initiative with its overall outlook so that it is able to spread the message of living a healthy life.
Depression comes with a great personal cost that many people do not realise until it has become chronic and requires a great deal of attention and resources to deal with. Many people who exhibit symptoms of depression often fall victim of self denial, thus, further fuelling its grasp on our health. The reason why we have picked depression as a key focal point of our health based initiatives is largely because of personal experiences of our Founder and his road to recovery, which started with an admittance of been depressed. Our plans include workshops, a slew of video series highlighting issues around depression and in partnership with mental health experts, establish a ‘clinic’ where people can seek professional help in dealing with depression without having to deal with the social stigma of been classified as depressed.
Neighbourhood Health Support
The Neighbourhood Health Support (NHS) initiative is aimed at supporting community based efforts at increasing awareness to various health prevalent issues, which could cover anything from high blood pressure (HBP), to the effective treatment of malaria, the need to develop good healthy practices/lifestyle, as well as good eating habits. Part of the idea for supporting this initiative comes from partnering with existing organisations that carry out neighbourhood based health campaigns to ensure that the objectives of such efforts really make a difference in various communities.
The Storybuzzz Project
The overriding philosophies behind the Storybuzzz Project are: to encourage the habits of reading and writing; electronically document the literary and cultural history of Nigeria; use the project as a platform to promote the arts through technology. The main theme behind Storybuzzz is the idea of developing a story plot that readers have the chance of creating their follow-up plots to the initial storyline. The whole idea is to let the readers develop the story and eventually end it in their own words and style. Storybuzzz starts with the creation of an engaging online community/experience that would always keep its customers coming back for more.
